Versatility:
You can cook a variety of food from fresh or frozen, including any type of meat, fish, vegetables and even toasted sandwiches and paninis.
Health Benefits:
Coronary Heart Disease and high cholesterol are two health complaints that can be easily monitored and largely prevented through a healthy diet. The UK population has one of the highest average cholesterol concentrations in the world, while there are 94,000 deaths in the UK from CHD each year, with 2.6 million people suffering with the condition.
Both are influenced by too much saturated fat in the diet and can result in heart attacks and strokes.
The ridged grilling surface of a George Foreman grill means as little direct contact is made with the food as possible, allowing excess fat and grease to drip away for a healthier bite. Grilling a 160g steak (which contains 16g of fat & 6g saturated fat) reduces the fat by 75%, leaving you with only 1.5g fat!
Ian Marber, The Food Doctor, comments:
"Grilling food allows the excess fat, which is naturally released during cooking, to drain away, which significantly reduces fat intake and which, in turn, reduces the overall risk factor of CHD. Calories will also be reduced as fat contains 9 calories per gram, more than any other food group.
"Myocardial Infarction, or a heart attack as it's more commonly known, has many causes not least diet. Excess fat in the diet has been linked to increased incidence of MI although there is some disagreement about saturated fat, often cited as the main culprit. Excess fat can lead to lipids sticking to the inside of the arteries, increasing blood pressure and ultimately resulting in a heart attack or stroke. Reducing overall fat intake can help bring down levels of one of the most familiar lipids, cholesterol, a major factor in the incidence of MI."
